Timber Panelling Repairs & Ash Framing
Timber selection and wood working knowledge is a specialised area of autombile restorative work.
Timber work in modern cars is usually limited to the prestige sector of the market and is present as a surface veneer for decorative effect. In early model cars it was used to form a structural framework for the body and doors.
Ash was often the timber of choice for car body makers as it was strong, stable and relatively light. In a ground up restoration it is sometimes necessary to replace or strengthen the ash framework to ensure the integrity of the body structure. Solid timber (sometimes veneered) was also often used for dashboards and offered structural strength and natural beauty.
